I provide a holistic perspective on the origins and evolution of the North American fringe-toed lizards, Uma, using morphological data and the fossil record, phylogenetic analysis of molecular data, and geological and paleoenvironmental data. The scans of four specimens of Uma used as comparative material are available for download here.
